The baseball team has a new home field, Crosley Field in Blue Ash.  The street address is 11540 Grooms Road, Cincinnati, OH 45242.

Here is how to get there:

  • Take I-275 to Reed Hartman Highway and head south towards Blue Ash.
  • Drive 0.1 mile and take a left on East Kemper Road.
  • Drive 0.2 mile and take a right on Grooms Road.
  • Drive 0.2 mile and take a left into the City of Blue Ash Sports Center.
  • Crosley Field is at the back of the complex.

 

 

 

 

COUGAR PLAYERS GARNER ACADEMIC AND OCAC AWARDS
June 3, 2010

This past week, several Clermont Cougar players received individual honors and awards for their accomplishments in 2010. The following players were named to the 2010 Ohio College Athletic Conference (OCAC) All-Conference Baseball Team:

COUGAR PLAYERS RECEIVE USCAA HONORS

May 17, 2010

Old Orchard Beach ,  ME – Nic Costanzo 1B/DH (jr/Mariemont) and Drew Hord LF (soph/Glen Este) were named to the USCAA All-American Team for 2010/  Costanzo becomes  Clermont  College ’s first  First Team All-American Selection.  He was an honorable mention in 2009.  Nic had a regular season average of .460 and on base percentage of .593.  He led the USCAA in walks with 39 and sac flies with 7.  He was also in the top 5 with 48 runs scored and 49 RBI’s.  Drew Hord was the second Cougar player to receive an Honorable Mention All-American designation.  He hit .425 and had a sluggine percentage of .734.  Drew had five homeruns, 35 RBI’s and 36 runs scored.  He was also named to the USCAA National All-Tournament team.  Costanzo and Hord were ranked fifth and second (respectively) of active players in the USCAA with 50 or more at bats.  Congratulations to both players on outstanding seasons!

 

 

COUGARS FALL SHORT IN USCAA FINALS

May 13, 2010

Old Orchard Beach ,  ME – The Clermont Cougar Baseball Team made it to the USCAA Finals on Thursday with a 6-3 wins over Penn State Beaver in the semi-final game Thursday Morning at the  Ball  Park in  Old Orchard Beach ,  ME.  Travis Orr (fresh/Eastern Brown) threw 5 solid innings, giving up just 2 runs to get his first tournament victory.  Jeff Muse (soph/Oak Hills) came in relief to record his second save of the Tournament.  Muse also had a three run homer during the game.  1B Nic Costanzo (jr/Mariemont) had three hits, CF Steve Hendrickson (soph/Wayne), LF Drew Hord (soph/Glen Este) and 3B Bobby Noeth (jr/Western Brown) had 2 hits apiece. However, the unbelievable run that the Cougars had came to an end in the finals.  Second-ranked Briarcliffe took complete control of the game after the fourth inning, beating the Cougars 16-4, and were crowned the 2010 USCAA National Champions.  The Cougars finished the tournament as runners-up with a 4-2 tournament record.  During their 6-game run, the #6-seeded Cougars  beat the #3, #8, #1 and #4 seeds.  The Cougars only losses came from Briarcliffe, in the second game (8-4) and the final.  The Cougars have much of which to be proud with an unbelievable showing in what was just their third full season of play. The Cougars had three players named to the All-Tournament Team:  Steve Hendrickson, Drew Hord, and Chris Alfaro were 3 of ten players selected from the Top Four teams.  Hendrickson had a great tournament, both offensively and defensively.  His game-saving catch in right center field during the quarterfinal game vs. #1  Seed  Apprentice  College was said by many to be one of the best defensive plays they had ever seen.  Drew Hord had 10 hits, including 4 doubles and 10 RBI’s.  Chris Alfaro hit 2 homeruns in the tournament, one against the eventual National Champions Briarcliffe and one against  Apprentice  College .  The Cougars finish the 2010 Baseball Season with a 25-18 record, as 2010 OCAC League Champions, and 2010 USCAA National Tournament Runners up.  Congratulations on a great season.

 

 

COUGARS MARCH TOWARDS SEMIS

May 12, 2010

The Clermont Cougar Baseball Team beat Apprentice College 10-8  Wednesday night. Jarred Chapman got the victory and Jeff Muse the save. Drew Hord, Nate Bromagen, Andrew McPheters, and Zach Barkalow had two hits a piece, Barkalow also tripled.  Many hits were doubles and Chris Alfaro homered for his second time in the tournament.  The Cougars will play in the third place semi-finals on Thursday against Penn-State Beaver in their continued bid for the USCAA National Baseball Title.

 

 

COUGARS MAKE IT TO QUARTERFINALS

May 12, 2010

The Clermont Cougar Baseball Team made it into the USCAA Quarter Finals with a 10-3 victory over Clark State on Wednesday. Chris Hundley threw a complete game, holding Clark State to just 3 runs.  The offense came alive with a 3 run home run by Bobby Noeth, a double by Chris Alfaro, a double and 2  hits from JD Little and a 2-run single by Drew Hord. The Cougars play the winner of Apprentice and Penn State Allegheny this evening.

 

 

 

COUGARS LOSE ONE, FACE CLARK STATE ON WEDNESDAY

May 11, 2010

The Clermont Cougars suffered their first loss in the USCAA National Tournament on Tuesday, falling to Briarcliff College 8-4. In the second inning, the Cougars managed to overcome a 4-0 first inning deficit, but turned around and gave up 4 during that same inning. They were never able to put  up any more runs for the remainder of the game. DH Jarred Chapman had a key hit and Chris Alfaro hit a three-run Homer. Catcher Andrew McPheters had 2 hits, including a Double, and pitcher Ryan Stang had 4 innings of solid relief pitching. Next up in the Tournament, the Cougars play Clark State Wednesday at 11 AM. COUGARS WIN GAME ONE OF USCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Old Orchard Beach Maine - The Clermont Cougars won their first round game against Southern Virginia University 3-1 Monday as they compete for the USCAA National Title. The Cougars were led by Freshman Nate Jancsics as he threw a complete game victory. Steve Henrickson had 2 hits and Drew Hord had 2 Hits and 2 RBIS. Both had doubles. Nic Costanzo had an RBI and run scored and Chris Alfaro had a run scored. Nate Bromagen and Bobby Noeth both had key defensive plays in the game.

 

 

COUGARS FINISH REGULAR SEASON ON A WINNING NOTE

May 4, 2010

Circleville ,  OH – The Clermont Cougars finished the regular season with a doubleheader sweep of  Ohio  Christian  University Tuesday afternoon.  Both teams have qualified for National Tournaments, OCU is going to the National College Christian Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division II National Championships and our Cougars are USCAA bound.  Both teams used these games as tune-ups for their tournament, with a combination of over 20 pitchers in the two games.  After the games, the Cougar squad descended on the Circleville Ponderosa and proceeded to sweep the buffet clean.  An estimated 40 pieces of pie were consumed.  Coach Harbison closed the buffet with a final piece of chocolate cream pie, straight from the kitchen.  It was the last piece available and Coach Harbison considers himself lucky to have received it. The Cougars leave  Saturday, May 8, 2010 for  Old Orchard Beach ,  ME and are seeking their first USCAA National Championship.   They finished their regular season with an 11-1 conference record and 22-16 overall.

 

 

 

COUGARS PREPARE FOR USCAA NATIONALS

May 1, 2010

Mansfield ,  OH – The Clermont Cougar Baseball team traveled to  Mansfield ,  OH to take on the Mavericks in conference play this past Saturday.  The Cougars have already won the OCAC Conference title, so Saturday’s games were used by Coach Spriggs to tune-up the pitching staff for the upcoming USCAA National Championship, which begins  May 10, 2010 in  Old Orchard Beach ,  ME.  The Cougars were sluggish after the 3 ½ hour trip to  Mansfield and dropped game one 7-4.  In game 2, 5 pitchers combined for a 16-0 no-hitter.  The win went to freshman Tyler Sluter ( Norwood ) and it was his first college-career victory.  Nate Hirsch (soph/Loveland), Ryan Stang (jr/Colerain), Nate Janscics (fresh/Loveland) and Brandon Heineman (jr/Calvary Christian KY) each threw a hitless inning.  On the day, Steve Hendrickson (soph/Wayne) collected 5 hits, including 4 doubles.  Jeff Muse (soph/Oak Hills) had 3 hits; Nate Bromagen (fresh/Glen Este) had a Home Run and collected 6 RBI’s; Catcher JD Little (fresh/Batavia) also had 3 hits.  The Cougar record now stands at 20-16 and 9-1 in OCAC Conference play.  The Cougars wrap up their regular season and OCAC Conference play this Tuesday against  Ohio  Christian  University in Circleville, OH.

 

 

 

 

COUGARS BEAT HARRIERS FOR 19th WIN
Tuesday, April 27, 2010

The Clermont Cougar Baseball team beat the Miami/Hamilton Harriers 9-6 on this cool evening, extending their winning streak to 5 (11 of the last 12 played).  Nate Janscics (fresh/Loveland) picked up his fourth win, throwing 5 innings.  Chris Hundley (fresh/Colerain) threw 2 1/3 solid innings and Chris Seager (fresh/Moeller) picked up his second save of the season, throwing the last 1 2/3 innings.  Hitting leaders for the night were Steve Hendrickson (soph/Wayne), Nic Costanzo (jr/Mariemont) and Jeff Muse (soph/Oak Hills), collecting 2 hits a piece.  The Cougars play  Saturday May 1, 2010 in  Mansfield and  Sunday May 2, 2010 at Blue Ash’s Crosley Field, weather permitting. 

 

 

COUGARS EARN USCAA BID

The UC/Clermont Cougars Baseball team has earned a berth in the USCAA National Tournament for the second season in a row.  A four-game sweep of #4 ranked Clark State CC, coupled with a 6-0 run, helped propel the Cougars into the USCAA Top 10.  The 2010 Championship series will be held in  Orchard Park Beach ,  ME , beginning  May 10, 2010 .  Details will follow.  Congratulations to the Clermont Cougar Baseball Team.

 

 

COUGARS SWEEP THUNDERHAWKS ON A DREARY DAY
April 24, 2010

Blue Ash, OH – Most Cougar players, coaches and fans were caught off-guard on Saturday when predicted rain held off and the Cougars were able to get both games in.  With the steady rain staying away until the seventh inning of the second game, the Cougars got a complete game effort from Ryan Stang (jr/Colerain) and an excellent 3 innings from Jeff Case (jr/New Richmond) in Game 2.  The Cougars won game on 14-4 and game 2, 12-8. 2B Steve Hendrickson (soph/Wayne) had 2 triples, 1B Nic Costanzo (jr/Mariemont), RF Jeff Muse (soph/Oak Hills), LF Drew Hord (soph/Glen Este) and 3B Bobby Noeth (jr/Western Brown) each collected 4 hits on the day. The Cougars’ offense continues to roll and their record now stands at 17-13.

 

COUGARS CAPTURE SHARE OF OCAC TITLE WITH VICTORIES

April 23, 2010

Blue Ash, OH – The Clermont Cougars captured at least a share of the Ohio Collegiate Athletic Conference (OCAC) Baseball title, with a doubleheader sweep of  Ohio  Christian  University Friday at Crosley Field.  The Cougars’ record in OCAC conference play now stands at 8-0.  The Cougars ran into a depleted OCU squad, having little trouble beating them on Friday. LF Drew Hord (soph/Glen Este) collected three hits on the day, as did SS Chris Alfaro (soph/Anderson) with a homer and a double.  CF Steve Hendrickson (soph/Wayne) collected 6 hits on the day.  RF Zach Barkalow (soph/Summit) had a double in addition to reaching base 5 time in both games. The Cougars overall record now stands at 15-13.

     

 

COUGARS LOSE CLOSE ONE TO HARRIERS, ENDING 6 GAME STREAK

April 20, 2010

Hamilton ,  OH – The Clermont Cougar Baseball team lost to the Miami/Hamilton Harriers 12-11 Tuesday Night.  The Harriers scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the ninth, on a single off reliever Brandon Heineman.  The Clermont Offense continued to produce runs throughout the game.  CF Steve Hendrickson (soph/Wayne) collected 3 hits, including a double.  1B Nic Costanzo (jr/Mariemont) had 2 hits and 4 RBI’s.  3B Bobby Noeth (jr/Western Brown) collected 2 doubles on the evening and C Andrew McPheters (soph/Colerain) also had 2 hits, including a double.  The Cougar record is now even, 13-13.

 

 

COUGARS EXTEND STREAK TO SIX WITH 2 MORE CONFERENCES WINS

April 18, 2010

Blue Ash, OH – Old Crosley field was good to the Clermont Ball Club this past weekend, as they took 2 more conference games from OSU/Mansfield Sunday.  Solid pitching from Chris Seagar (fresh/Moeller), Jeff Muse (soph/Oak Hills) and Nate Janscics (fresh/Loveland) were key to the Cougars’ 11-6 and 11-1 victories.  Hitting continues to dominate for the Cougars.  1B Nic Costanzo (jr/Mariemont) collected four hits on the day.  RF Jeff Muse (soph/Oak Hills),  3B Bobby Noeth (jr/Western Brown), DH Jarred Chapman (Jr/Lakota West) and C Andrew McPheters (soph/Colerain) each contributed 3 hits to the attach.  The Cougars now have a 6-0 record in the OCAC and 13-12 overall. 

 

OU/CHILLICOTHE DROPS TWO MORE TO COUGARS

April 17, 2010

Blue Ash, OH – The Cougars added two more victories as they beat OU/Chillicothe 11-1 and 10-0 this past Saturday.  Brandon Heinman and James Pulskamp, both Clermont sophomores, picked up their first victories of the season.  Offense was found all through the line-up Saturday:  1B Nic Costanzo (jr/Mariemont) collected 5 hits on the day, including 2 doubles and 7 RBI’s; RF Zach Barkalow (soph/Summit, CO) had four hits, including a double and a triple; DH Jarred Chapman (jr/Lakota West) collected 3 hits in Game 1, including a double and 4 RBI’s; and C Andrew McPheters (soph/Colerain) also collected 3 hits, including a double and 4 RBI’s.  Clermont’s record now stands at 11-12.

 

 

COUGARS ROLL PAST EAGLES TWO MORE TIMES

April 15, 2010

Springfield , OH – The Clermont Cougar Baseball team took two more games from the USCAA 4th-ranked Clark State Eagles, 13-3 and 5-4 last Thursday.  The Cougars got solid pitching performances from Chris Hundley (fresh/Colerain) and Nate Hirsch (soph/Loveland) to pave the way for the Cougar hitters.  In Game One, the Cougars jumped out to an early 4-run lead, as the Cougars’ first three hitters reached base.  This set up a Grand Slam Home Run by LF Drew Hord (soph/Glen Este).  The hit parade continued with home runs from RF Jeff Muse (soph/Oak Hills) and SS Nate Bromagen (fresh/Glen Este).  Game 2 was a little different, with the Cougars down 4-0 going into the sixth inning.  CF Steve Hendrickson (soph/Wayne) lead off the inning with a double, followed by 1B Nic Costanzo’s (jr/Mariemont) infield hit.  Jeff Muse walked and then followed a double by Drew Hord. With one out, Nate Bromagen tripled down the right field line, scoring Muse and Hord.  With the game tied, Bromagen scored on a wild pitch, giving the Cougars a 5-4 lead.  Jeff Muse came in from right field, striking out the last two batters in the seventh, to earn his second save this season.  The Clermont Record is now 9-12 and 4-0 in OCAC league play.

 

 

COUGARS SWEEP 4th-RANKED CLARK STATE IN OCAC LEAGUE OPENER

April 11, 2010 

Crosley Field, Blue Ash, OH – The Clermont Cougar baseball team swept USCAA 4th-ranked  Clark  State 5-4 and 6-2 in OCAC play on Sunday. The Cougars were trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning of game when lead-off hitter Nic Costanzo (1B, Jr/Mariemont) collected his second hit of the game on a 3-1 count to left field.  Jeff Muse (P, Soph/Oak Hills), who had come in on relief at the top of the inning to shut the Eagles down, walked.  This brought up clean-up hitter Drew Hord (LF, Soph/Glen Este) who flew out to left after battling a 3-2 count.  With one out and a 2-2 count, Bobby Noeth (3B, Jr/Western Brown) drove a double to right center, scoring both Costanzo and Muse, for the game-winning hit.  Muse picked up his first win as a pitcher.  Chris Seager (Fresh/Moeller) pitched 4 solid innings of relief, giving up just one run.  In Game 2, Nate Janscics (Fresh/Loveland) pitched a complete game, including 10 strikeouts to pick up his second win of the season.  Janscics continues to be the dominating Cougar pitcher as the season progresses.  Nic Costanzo and Jeff Muse each collected 3 hits on the day and SS Nate Bromagen (Fresh/Glen Este) had a triple.  The Cougar record now stands at 6-14 with a 2-0 record in conference play.

 

COUGARS LOSE 2 TO HARRIERS
April 10, 2010

Crosley Field, Blue Ash, OH – The Miami/Hamilton Harriers continued their winning ways, as they swept a Saturday doubleheader (9-1, 7-3) against the Clermont Cougar Baseball team.  The Cougars could get nothing going and for the eighth (and ninth) time in 3 years, they were beaten by the Harriers.

 

 

COUGARS ROLL PAST CHILLICOTHE
April 6, 2010 

Paint Veteran’s StadiumThe Clermont Cougar offense continued to roll, beating OU/Chillicothe 21-2 in a doubleheader  April 6, 2010 .  The Cougars collected 41 hits on the day, including home runs hit by 1B Nic Costanzo (jr/Mariemont) and DH Jarred Chapman (jr/Lakota West).  IF Zach Barkalow (soph/Summit) had 5 hits on the day as did Costanzo.  JD Little collected 4 hits and 6 RBI’s.  3B Bobby Noeth (jr/Western Brown) had 2 doubles and scored 6 times.  CF Steve Hendrickson (soph/Wayne), SS Nate Bromagen (fresh/Glen Este), 2B Chris Alfaro (soph/Anderson) and C Andrew McPheters (soph/Colerain) each had 3 hits on the day. The games were played at Paint Veteran’s Stadium, a beautiful facility which is home to the Chillicothe Paints, (Independent Frontier League).  The weather cooperated, with temperatures near 80, to make a perfect day for Clermont Cougar Baseball.  The Cougar record now stands at 4-10.

 

 
 

 

 

PITCHING CONTINUES TO STRUGGLE
April 5, 2010

The Clermont Cougars offense continues to roll, scoring 35 runs in the last four games as the pitching losses continue.  47 runs were given up, leaving the Cougars with just 1 win in the aforementioned games.  Nate Jancsics (fresh/Loveland) was the highlight of the pitching department, throwing a 7-inning complete game, allowing just one run on four hits, as the Cougars beat  Hanover in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader.   Hanover won the first game 24-14.  In weekday match-ups, the Cougars lost to Cedarville 6-0 and  Berea 16-13. Bobby Noeth 3B (jr/Western Brown) swung a hot stick during the past week, collecting eleven hits including 1 HR and 3 doubles.  1B Nic Costanzo (jr/Mariemont) continued his on-base persistency, reaching base 12 times, including 7 walks, 2 HP and a home run.  LF Andrew Hord (soph/Glen Este) had 7 hits which included an HR and 3 doubles.  OF Zach Barkalow (soph/Summit) hit .500 over the course of the last 4 games.  The Cougars’ record now stands at 2-10.

 

  

COUGARS PICK UP FIRST WIN ON SPRING TRIP

The Clermont Cougar Baseball team produced a lot of offense during their Spring Trip, but fell short in their contests until the very last game.  In very windy, cold conditions, the Cougars were able to prevail 12-7 over  Asbury College , an NAIA team from the KIAC Conference.  Ryan Stang and Chris Hundley, both graduates of Colerain HS, combined solid pitching performances in grueling conditions to get the win and save.  Steve Hendrickson CF (junior/Wayne) had 4 hits, Drew Hord CF (soph/Glen Este) and Bobby Noeth 3B (junior/Western Brown) both had home runs, a double and 5 RBI’s.  Catcher Andrew McPheters (soph/Colerain) also had 2 solo home runs. McPheters also picked off a runner at first and 1B Nic Costanzo (junior/Mariemont) made 2 inning-ending sweep tags to continue the overall strong defensive that the Cougars are showing this year.  On the previous day, Hendrickson made a heart-stopping leap catch in the Cougars 13-11 loss against NAIA 17th ranked powerhouse  Union  College , which kept the Cougars in the game until the end. Overall, the Cougars’ offense and defense were strong troughout the four days of road play.  Steve Hendrickson hit .500 for the trip.  Nic Costanzo had 3 doubles and reached base safely 11 times.  Jeff Muse collected 7 hits and scored 8 times.  Drew Hord and Bobby Noeth each had 3 home runs and 2 doubles.  Drew McPheters had 2 HR’s and 2 doubles and Mike Stidham hit .500.  Nate Bromagen continued his strong play at shortstop playing the balance of the series with a tender right ankle, but still getting to everything with little problem.  The Cougar record now stands at 1-7.

 

COUGARS FALL TO NORSEMAN
Northern Kentucky University

The Clermont Cougar Baseball team fell short of a victory in their 9-inning contest vs. the NCAA Division II Northern Kentucky University Norsemen.  On a cloudy, wet day in March, the final score was 7-4.  The Cougars did turn in some strong performances, with Jarred Chapman (junior/Lakota West) throwing 5 solid innings and Chris Seager (fresh/Moeller) throwing 2 shut-out innings in the seventh and eighth innings.  1B Nic Costanzo (junior/Mariemont) reached base three times, with 2 hits and a walk.  3B Bobby Noeth (junior/Western Brown) collected 2 hits, including a double, and SS Nate Bromagen (fresh/Glen Este) had a double and 2 RBI’s.  The Cougars will be idle next week for exams and then will embark on their annual Spring Trip through  Kentucky during Spring Break.

 

COUGARS OPEN 2010 SEASON

The Clermont Cougar Baseball Team opened their 2010 Season in  Charleston , WV against WVA Tech, an NAIA team in the Mid-South Conference.  The home field of the Golden Bears is nestled in a gorgeous valley, surrounded by the majestic  Allegheny Mountains , a perfect venue for the Cougars’ opening 3-game series.  Temperatures ranged from the low 50’s to 60 degrees, with sunny skies both days. The Cougars fell 6-2 in the opener on Saturday afternoon and then proceeded to lose 3-2 and 5-4 in the backend doubleheader on Sunday.  The Cougars played well, but unfortunately, fell short in all three games. The Clermont pitchers put in solid performances, led by starter Brandon Huber (soph/Amelia) 4 innings 2 ER; Jarred Chapman (junior/Lakota West) 3 1/3 innings, 1 ER; and Ryan Stang (junior/Colerain) 4 innings, 2 ER.  Chris Tillery (soph/Eastern Brown) also pitched well, throwing 3 shutout innings. Clermont CF Steve Hendrickson (soph/Wayne) and RF Jeff Muse (soph/Oak Hills) both had 4 hits in the three game series.
